The first step I take when I begin working with people is to try to understand what they wish to achieve financially and the timeframe they want to achieve it in. Then I begin to define the steps that bridge the gap between where they are now and the options they have to fulfil that goal. Together we then decide upon a holistic financial plan they can use as a roadmap towards financial independence.

John Makowem is a Certified Financial Planner, and also holds a Bachelor of Commerce as well as a Bachelor of Laws degree from Rhodes University in South Africa. John practised law in South Africa for a number of years, and subsequently owned a company that marketed financial services products to financial planners. John was recruited by a national financial planning company in New Zealand where he spent two and a half years prior to establishing the Maxim Group.

John is married with one child. In his spare time he plays golf and tennis, and is a keen mountain biker. He is also an avid rugby, cricket and football fan..
